Nominet’s annual UK Internet Policy Forum will be held on Thursday 22 March 2012 at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge, London . This provides an opportunity for the first meeting of the UK-IGF to prepare for the 2012 Internet Governance Forum.

This year’s Forum, chaired by Sarah Montague of the Today programme, will feature a range of speakers, panel debates and workshops on the theme of ‘Shaping the Development of the Internet’, generating thought-provoking debate to contribute to policy developments within .uk and globally.

Vint Cerf, Vice President and Chief Internet Evangelist, Google will deliver a keynote speech on ‘Preserving, evolving and expanding Internet access and utility in the 21st Century’.

The morning will also include an opening address on digital citizenship from Lord Richard Allan, Director of Policy EMEA, Facebook, and interactive UK-IGF run workshops on key international internet issues covering rights, identity, access, and governance. These discussions will also help develop UK messages to feed into the Internet Governance Forum for 2012.

The afternoon will focus on the role of regulation and self-regulation in shaping the development of the Internet, especially in the context of an expanding domain name space and the changing attitudes of internet users and actors.

Following a keynote speech from The Hon Ed Vaizey, Minister for Culture, Communications and Creative Industries, we will also hold an interactive session to examine the features that stakeholders feel are necessary to maintain the .uk space as relevant, competitive, and trusted.
